I'm extremely concerned that up to 30 boxes of veteran claim records could have been taken out of the VA by a single individual. Not only is this a violation of HIPAA, but also the Privacy Act and has significant ramifications to the safety of personal information and the VA's security procedures.

Nothing that will help a Vet is a priority for the VA.

I'm surprised the guy got fired, usually they end up running the show when they do illegal things. The worse it is, the bigger the promotion. This is horrible and I hope the VA who is ultimately responsible has to pay big time!

Cmon, it was obviously an oversight and he didn't know it was illegal. He was filing and a home filing system. It might have been extremely careless but that's not a crime, that is if your not military. ;0)
