The fact that is was a Vet of such age, is horrible. Secondly, being turned away when there is a facility on the same grounds is criminal. I just can't get this, what is the deal with the VA, and after all of the investigations, firings, Congressional Inquiries, and media attention, can't they get their act together.

I understand mismanagement, but these people have everyone and the Hubble Space Craft up the 4th point of contact, and yet nothing has changed. But hey, I hear they get paid well.

Disgusted.

This story really hits home for me.

"Someone dropped the ball.." Um....I don't know if I would chose those words. More like if a mentally unstable patient that which is denied care and turned away and decided to shoot himself in the parking lot..."someone dropped the ball" is a bit of an understatement.

Who ever turned that person away needs to be fired, no investigation, no suspension of duties or put on admin leave. Just kick them out the door.

A buddy of mine, while he wasn't military, had mental issues and was turned away at a hospital. So he took matters into his own hands and hung himself. Because someone didn't want to take the time to see him about his suicidal thoughts, a friend of mine is gone. SMDH.

Stories like this get me angry, frustrated and hurt all at the same time.

This another incident where an individual has been missed in local assistance and peer support before reaching organizational and clinical levels have been approached --- without personal response. Where are the options for our mil/vets BEFORE they reach the CRISIS level?
