You want to know how veteran friendly your college of choice is? Visit the campus' Veteran Service Office and see how friendly and responsive they are. See if they have veteran staff. See if VBA pays visits to them, and how often.
What? Your college of choice doesn't have a VSO? Probably not too veteran friendly then, heh.
Seriously, though, when I was at Eastern, the VSO worked hard to make sure all the paperwork was in order and submitted so I got my benefits delivered on time. If there were delays, they worked with Finance on my behalf to make sure I was charged for the government's payment delays. And if I was charged, they stepped in and got my account cleared. There was all sorts of seminars and informational packets set up and sent out. We had a local Veteran Students of America chapter, as well, that reached out to all student veterans, keeping us appraised of all the goings-on around, including job fairs. And, there was even a weekly B-LOB at one of the nearby establishments.
One thing's for certain. When you're at the stage of life that we are as veterans, surrounded by a bunch of not-children, it's a great thing having a group of your peers to connect with.
