ILLUSTRATIONS: (1) 61st FS CO Lt. Col. "Gabby" Gabreski downs a Me-109G with his 56th FG P-47D for his 28th and final aerial kill in early June 1944. (2) Lt. Col. "Gabby" Gabreski leads 61st FS, 56th FG P-47Ds in an attack on a heavily defended German airfield in early July 1944. (3) Lt. Col. "Gabby" Gabreski strafes an airfield in Germany moments before being forced to crash land. This painting incorrectly depicts Gabreski's P-47D with invasion stripes on the upper surfaces. Units painted over or stripped off the markings on the tops of the wings and the upper fuselage in late June. (4) Col. Francis Gabreski climbs from the cockpit of his 51st FIW F-86E after a mission to "MiG Alley" on which he scored his fifth and final MiG kill.

That last picture reminds me of WWII war movies I've seen about England

Except the last picture is of him getting out of his F-86 Sabre in Korea! It's perhaps worth adding that although he was fourth-highest scoring ace when counting strafing kills, he was the highest scoring ace in Europe in terms of air-to-air victories.
