First Combat troops, yes, but there were troops there way before and engaging in Combat when needed, also being KIA. Respect them also, they paved the way for these so called first Combat troops boots on ground to start fighting.

Correct! By 1964, there were 23,000 U.S. troops already in Vietnam in an "advisory" role. U.S. military advisors were embedded at every level of the South Vietnamese armed forces. One site I checked reports 416 US KIA through 1964. before the escalation.
