Taught 9 years before my first deployment, only had one incident were I broke up a fight and the student (8th grader) pulled back like he was going to swing a me, I looked at him and said boy you hit me, I will put you on the ground and they can fire my ass later, he dropped his fist after that. But I live in a more rural area, my biggest complaint was some students parents getting them labeled special ed when they did not have any type of learning disability just lazy.

I come from a family of Teachers...I saw my mother come home with bruises on more than one occasion because the most she was allowed to do was "restrain" a child. One of my first Law Enforcement jobs was in a small rural town. We had friends whos son was on the football team. He one told me that there was talk about a rival school coming over and starting a fight. I told him that if they did and I responded I was only giving them one warning to stop then I would start putting down anyone who was still fighting including him...He said that was not right because they were minors. He was a 6-3 220 plus lbs lineman I told him you look like an Adult you Act like and Adult you get arrested like an adult

Teacher friend of mine here in Houston, says this is not unusual here either. Teachers are afraid, or frankly don't care to, discipline unruly children. The reasoning: the school administrators will bow to the faux outraged parents because the school is afraid of lawsuits, and the teachers get disciplined and fined. So, all of the power is in the hands of the students, instead of the teachers. And, believe me, the students know it....

Spoke to a couple of friends of mine and they are expressing the same concerns. The teachers are being put in an impossible position.
