If you are bold enough to have a hard conversation, have the hard conversation. Just remember two things: You love each other, and no conversation should change that. If it does, your priorities need recalibrating. And secondly, be prepared to be disappointed. Perspective doesn't change overnight.
My own personal journey didn't get "real" until I started dating and later married a woman of color. I never had to experience the stares, the whispers and such until I became "different".
Racism is usually subtle. But it is no less subversive.
