Nature can be very strange , and sometimes I am awe struck! In this clip Biologist Nan Hauser believes that when a humpback whale approached her and started nudging, lifting, and covering, it was acting to protect her from a nearby tiger shark. We really don't know if this is the case. However, Nan believes she was protected by her new gibbous friend. Nature can be quite unusual !

The adjective gibbous has its origins in the Latin noun gibbus, meaning "hump," and in the Late Latin adjective gibbosus, meaning "humpbacked," which Middle English adopted in the 14th century as gibbous. Gibbous has been used to describe the rounded body parts of humans and animals (such as the back of a camel) or to describe the shape of certain flowers (such as snapdragons). The term is most often identified, however, with the study of astronomy. A gibbous moon is one that is more than a half-moon but less than full.

Thank you, my friend SGT John " Mac " McConnell for mentioning the word of the day "gibbous." Since gibbous is akin to waxing as opposed to waning, it would never be used when discussing the appearance of a pregnant spouse :-)
Gibbons, groundhogs, gerbils, guinea pigs, and giraffes may well grind and grunt when the moon seems to be gibbous. However gerunds and Germanic grammar are generally associated with graduate studies as well as grammar school.
