Normally I would post this in the Posted Phonies. But, this guy is a lawmaker. Now, he is a lawbreaker.
An altered photo and unverified claims of combat wounds, medals, and overseas service have landed Washington State Rep. Graham Hunt, a Republican from Orting, Washington, on a growing list of public figures accused of embellishing their military service.

Why does this not surprise me, you know I think anyone that miss uses their military record for gain; other then what they claim. It should be a crime!

Supposedly there is a law against it. It depends on which state wants to prosecute. Even then it's usually a slap on the wrist. I wish it could become a Federal law and put some teeth in it.

I read this yesterday, and I'm actually giving him the benefit of the doubt only because of the specific awards.
"Air Force Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal."
Here's why: When I got out the Marines, my final medal was the NavCom (equivalent to the AFCOM). I have the Certificate for it, but it does not appear on my DD214. It's entirely possible that he could have gotten a "low level award" (AFCOM is not all that high in the grand scheme of things), and shoved it in a box somewhere. As for the Campaign medals, these are the types I can definitely see being screwed up by admin somewhere.
Could he be "embellishing" his record? Sure. Is it far more likely that his records are jacked up like all of our records are jacked up? Especially when we are talking about an AFCOM? If we were talking Bronze Star/MSM +, let's break out the pitch forks, but these are "normal" awards wouldn't rate a second glance normally.

PO1 (Servicemember) Because they don't matter outside the service. They're "colored ribbons," and I literally signed my DD214 the day I got out. I was not going to get into a pissing contest in S1 on 10/30/02 while the Marine Corps was going through "Stop Loss" as Intel Analyst in Metro DC. "Pick your battles"
As for him. He was a reservist. Who knows how many DD214s and Reserve discharge papers he has, and how jacked up his personnel jacket is. My SRB used to have a copy of my Shellback Certificate in it before they took those out in 1997~. "Paper reduction act" nonsense.
