Watchdog report: Failed VA leadership put patients at risk

I know a lot of folks who work/did work at the VA. After the mess that caused GEN Shinseki to resign (patient wait times), FPO appointed another Secy and for awhile everyone raved about the new and improved VA. Congress threw money at it and the wait times improved. VA fired a bunch of people, but only one senior exec involved in that scandal. Only by VA is a big place and last I knew, they did not even have one database to find all the employees, unlike the military. Civilians at the senior level are too entrenched in doing things the way they've always done them, and they are rewarded for the wrong things. I think the problem was they thought firing a bunch of folks would change the culture, but it doesn't. You have to tell people what their goals are, reward them for reaching them and holding them accountable when they don't, and have senior managers committed to those goals and helping you meet them. I am watching with interest to see if this leader can make that happen.
