Carter, Bush II & Obama have all spoken out on immigration in the not-too-distant past. However, this system has been broken for many years, and they are part of the legacy. Obama wrote about fixing it in 2013 and 2015, but couldn't get Congress engaged. Bush was doing stop-gap fixing in the wake of 9/11. I've researched attempts back to Pres Reagan, and no one has really been able to bring about systemic changes. Seems it's only when there is a crisis we get concerned, then we forget when it's off the front page. So will that happen now? Will Pres Trump ignore it after this wave dies down? Will Congress really pass something that is a compromise and that will begin the process of fixing it? Will Trump sign it? Or will they all punt and see what the mid-terms bring? I wish I had more hope than I do.
