That would be great, but unless we vote out 2/3rds of our elected people they will never let it happen, too much money on the line.

Unfortunately, we'd be asking people to vote themselves out of a job. The only option is perhaps to put term limits in place, but not actually start for a while.

Great looking term effects but current office holders might try unethical methods to get around it.

What we really need is for this to be introduced and actually moved forward - something that our elected leaders would generally find contrary to their interests.

SSG Alan Pelletier - Convention of States.
That is the only way, probably. I see little chance of it passing Congress.

1SG (Join to see) - I had written to the State of Texas while living there. Sadly, there is quite a bit of difficulty in getting the necessary pieces in place for this to happen. The true power rests with us but as a culture we've become pretty lazy and uninformed in our own American Studies.
Long term perhaps, but my thought is to reintroduce civics into the education process, a sunset date on laws, and term limits. Maybe even limits for Judges and Justices?
Thoughts?

SSG Alan Pelletier - I have posted about this extensively elsewhere, but here goes:
28th Amendment - limit all federal elected office holders to no more than 12 total years between the House, Senate, and White House.
29th A - All budget items sunset annually and have to be specifically reauthorized by Congress every October 1st. This would not apply to entitlement programs like VA Compensation, Federal retirement, or Social Security. If any aspect of the federal budget is not passed by regular order (not continuing resolution) by Oct 1st, all pay and benefits for members of Congress is halted and not reinstated (and not retroactively) until such time as they pass a budget.
30th A - Balanced Budget Amendment
31st A - Any regulation or Executive Order issued by the Executive Branch is withdrawn after one year unless specifically reauthorized by the President limited to one reauthorization. Congress could leave the EO or regulation in place by codifying it in law through legislation.
32nd A - Impose limitations on the use of Imminent Domain
33rd A - Specifically define and limit Judicial Branch authority to interpreting existing laws and finding all or parts of laws un-Constitutional. (no more legislating from the bench)
34th A - Establish a National ID Card and require it's specific use for voting and applying for federal benefits. (legal residents and others such as felons would get an ID card that has limitations on use) It would have a CAC (or similar) with information such as biometrics and which precinct the citizen is authorized to vote in. This ID would be free of charge, but have strict requirements for issue/ reissue if lost.
35th A - Limit damages paid via judgment on a lawsuit to Compensatory Damages for property damage, injury, or income only (no more get-rich through lawsuits). Plaintiffs would be required to pay all court costs unless they win their case, in which case the defendant would pay all court costs. Lawyers would be limited on their share of damages to a set percentage (thinking 10%, but smarter people than me can set the number).
