No big surprise. They've been at it for years. Elections in Estonia, Germany, France and many more. Why wouldn't they? It works and helps break up EU, NATO. This makes it easier for them to achieve their goals of expansion. No longer the vast USSR but sure would like to be again. Putin has amassed great wealth over the years, and it's easy when you can just jail or kill someone and seize their assets as your own. Some say his net worth is around 200 - 300 $ Billion. I read a piece by someone that was close to him in the past and he says that figure is low. He believes he could be worth as much as double that and likely wants to be the World's first trillionaire. Look at the background of many of the heads of Russian state-affiliated and non-state banks and energy companies. They are either former intel officers or have at least been trained by them. It reminds me of the transition the mafia went through in the 80's. They transitioned to a more legitimate white-collar business model, because businesses aren't as obvious as the traditional revenue streams that RICO investigators key on. Instead of a loanshark operating out of a social club they opened check cashing shops and just raked in the cash. The casino industry has long ties to LCN, going back to post WWII. There are many others such as waste management, construction and who knows what else. They had to do this in order to survive and operate under the radar. So, if we look at Russia after the USSR breakup we can see some similarities.
