If we weren't training, we were doing police calls, layouts for some officer who lost something, or lawn care.

I hated police calls. I didn't think my team should have to do it, so I found other things for them to do, SGT Ryan Fleek.

In Garrison. Monday though Friday. First call at 0500. Clean the AO. In 30 Mikes will be First formation. PT then run 5 miles. Released until duty formation at 0900. During that time will be breakfast, finish cleaning the AO , shining boots , prepping uniforms , cleaning personal spaces , or just simply Lolly gagging .
Duty formation at 0900, uniform inspection, Clean Shave and Hair length check. Assignments are handed "read" out by Top. Those included track park Maintenance, cleaning weapons, training, marching to and from. practice drills, rifle drills, tactical drills, D&C. Rappel tower, combat swimming and much, much more !
Release formation depending on what is going on is usually at 1700 hours. This is the formation where the platoon Sergeant gets with the squad leaders on training and what needs to improve. Then guard duty roster is posted. This includes CQ, interior guard, ammo dump guard, staff duty guard. etc. Then the company is dismissed for the evening.
I know this is just a small list of what garrison was like when I served.
In the field. Could be at anytime the call came out " Alert ! " Then muster is called to get ready.
We either went out to the field at the local training area or down the road in a convoy. we also railhead our tracks to go to many other places around Germany. Not to mention all the other field schools one could volunteer for. E&E, French commando, Mountain training, winter survival and a whole laundry list of schools. We stayed out in the field 2 weeks to 2 months. Winter in Germany can be brutal with white out conditions.
On a final note we had to learn how to swim because our unit forded rivers in them lovely M 113 APC's. " I thought it was fun ! " This is not a complete list but of what comes to mind right now. Thanks for the share SGT (Join to see) . I am sure LTC Stephen F. could add to this list !
