For press credentials, I stopped using a media kit. I established resume with credentials and included my publications, and some of the major events I covered. Once you have a couple major events under your belt, they will issue you press creditials without musch effort. Although I accept no pay, I have had event sponsors willing to cover travel and lodging to have me there to report on their event.
