Why Chain Migration should either be amended or done away with.
Before Chain Migration there were certain criterias a person must meet in order to be able to gain path to citizenship. the most important is will you be attributing something to your new country to be....Chain Migration took away these criterias and made it where any Tom, Dick or Harry could gain access to the path of citizenship just because they are related to someone on the path or who have gained citizenship. IT SHOULD NOT be automatic....Perhaps an exception could be made for PARENTS....but siblings, aunt, uncle, cousins etc....should have to prove and earn their path. THIS IS MY OPINION.
Simply put, chain migration doesn’t place the interests of American citizens first. As a result, many well-deserving immigrants with skills and values that could potentially enhance the cultural and economic goals of the United States are passed over in favor of the relatives of previous migrants, no matter what they bring to the table. This is unfair to both American workers and those who have worked hard to form skills that could benefit this nation.
Replacing chain migration with a merit-based system would both lower the overall number of aliens accepted into the country each year, and ensure that those accepted are able to further the United States’ cultural and economic priorities.

SSG Edward Tilton and this is why I said it needs to be amended or taken out. re writing/amending it ...provision could be put in specifying this type of thing...like no automatic applying for SS...must be become a naturalized citizen...cannot receive SS benefit if only a permanent resident alien.

Used to be that way, somehow holding the sponsor responsible got lost. Australia, New Zealand and Canada require a large cash deposit.

Sgt Kelli Mays - You have to generally have 10 plus years working in the US to get Social Security benefits, whether you become a US citizen or not. There is an agreement between several countries and the US where if older immigrants worked into their country's equivalent of Social Security and then move here, they can get SS benefits under this arrangement.

Families make for more productive workers. Aunts, uncles and cousins aren't even covered by chain migration.

If you read what I wrote, I said it either needs to be amended and have more specifics or done away with and something else written in it's place. It would be nice for those of you who read other peoples posts to ACTUALLY READ what they said ...instead you are still STUCK on Melania and how she got here and she is supposedly getting her parents citizenship. NOT what I wrote this post for.
