That's one explanation. Here's another...
Many years ago, Mexican deep sea divers looking for treasure came across something that today all of North America can celebrate about. They found a sunken Spanish ship in the middle of the ocean. As they explored the remnants of this sunken ship, they found many many jars of Mayonaise! As it turns out, this valuable finding established the historic fact that Mayonaise is not an American invention, but originated from Spain and brought to North America. As a result, we still celebrate this special day every year and call it "Sinko de Mayo".
