If they really wish to be recognized as a sovereign nation, they should offer some of their territory as a listening post for the DIA/NSA. That appears to be the perfect place to listen to the Russian Republic, Turkey, and perhaps Iran. Done correctly, and provided this is desirable for the US, we would probably guarantee their safety. The 173 ABN BDE is so close that whichever battalion is on alert could probably deploy in "no time flat".
