The atomic weapons brought imperial Japan to its knees in August 1945. Since September 1939 in Europe, 1935 in Ethiopia, 1933 in Manchuria and Korea warfare had been waged with tens of millions killed, wounded and more dying of diseases and torture.
The Greatest Generation was subjected to unspeakable horrors in many occupied places and man rose to do their part from merchant marines who took convoys through submarine infested waters, to bombers that flew unescorted to bomb Germany until the Merlin-engine P-51 could accompany them, millions of soldiers, marines and sailors who trained and assaulted and fought hand-to-hand for years. WWII truly was a world-wide war.

There was no winner except the bankers who financed both sides. We "the world" lost the cream off the top of our friends, our families, and Countrymen, it happened to everyone involved the same way, either in the beginning and even up to today. Top Germans and Japanese military and scientists were either grabbed up by one group or the other, and the race to our worlds destruction goes on. Now the worldwide Military Industrial Corporations and other big blood-money leaches are building up for another go at it. (has anyone other than me wondered, why so many people can be led like sheep to join together in mass and follow the greed that is the root to it all.)?

Good article, and yet a disservice to those who served and died during the conflict.
