The same thing that has been behind the stand off for decades...centuries...longer...except that we do not pay attention to it because it is on the other side of the World. Not saying it is not important but saying the reason we do not follow it is because we have to keep our eye on CNN's hurt feeling and their made up stories. Oh, and because it is not our strategic sphere but we should still be aware of what is going on.

If we'd get out if Afghanistan we could dump Pakistan and go back to supporting India... against Pakistan & China

We cannot afford to dump Pakistan or India. They are both nuclear players and Pakistan is the bigger threat in that area. I am all for helping anyone who may be a thorn in China's side but this is not something new either.

Yes, if we were less involved in Afghanistan, we could reduce our involvement with Pakistan. Beyond that, I think we might have to agree to disagree. I think it is short sighted to 'dump' any nation, especially those that are the most dangerous.
