As an American *I* won't eat most of the stuff on that list... Having an English wife, I learned that there are only four states in America: California, New York, Florida and Texas. So most English will only go there. As they only go there, they'll look for something "from there" to complete their vacation. So a Brit visiting New York will want some "pizza," a Brit visiting Texas will want BBQ, etc. Mostly we have Americanized dishes in the house. But traditions exist. "Sunday roast" is done on Sunday regardless and consists of baked potatoes, veg (potato isn't a veg in England; its a lifestyle...), Yorkshire pudding and your meat which will be either beef, lamb, pork or chicken. And tons of gravy. The kids have all adapted to that as have her in-laws.
As my mom is Mexican, my wife has mastered Enchiladas, home made salsa and flautas. She has also picked up a few Southernisms from our early married life in South Carolina. So she's a killer BBQ rib cook and an incredibly evil chicken-and-bacon dinner. Now when her English family come over, they immerse themselves in Americana and have no problem doing drive through "stuff", sandwiches, etc. She tho - (like myself) still bemoan American attempts at cheese and beer.

I've seen you post about it, but I have never actually tasted SOS before. I did copy down the recipe in one of the earlier posts. I can't say where I put it though! Memorable name for food!

A high school buddy introduced it to me years ago, but then ran into it from time to time in mess halls and diners. Not a personal "must have" but I'll eat it, if it's placed in front of me! Chicken fried steak is much better IMHO but that's almost an apples to oranges comparison!
