Not to be insensitive but are these the same Soldiers with the latest iPhones, late model cars, smokes, and Beer parties every weekend? $1,800 Base pay a month plus benefits isn’t bad with what’s available in the civilian sector for entry job out of high school. It’s even harder if you already have kids. I still can’t understand how to service members, one with at least five years, and one kid can’t afford to my groceries. There must be other priorities above food. How much is BAH for two service members in that area? We have all worked our way from E1 up. Just saying.

This is a legitimate problem for both junior enlisted and young civilians. While we should provide aid, another issue is changing demographics. During and prior to the Cold War, many privates / airmen / seamen were single and lived in barracks / dorms / ships. Junior enlisted military pay was not meant to support a family.
