SSG Edward Tilton Well, you have to understand that the author, Mr. Carlos Hamann has quoted Jennifer Keene, from Chapman University. Another ultra liberal california institution that has no grounding in reality. Facts be damned, I will state my assertions as fact and if you disagree, you must be a racist, misogynistic, hate mongerer!

SSG Edward Tilton The first thing I thought when I saw this was the White Fleet. But we could easily push it back to the war with Spain as that's when Europe really noticed us for being a military power. You have a good point with Admiral Perry too.

Edit to add: Perry was a bit before 1870 and made us a real presence there.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski we discussed this during a leadership seminar one time. You could make an argument for a few different times in history. WWI is where I think we became the big kid on the block.
