Interesting read. Honestly social media, cyber information operations, and strategic communications policies is something that is not taken seriously by us in my opinion.

I would say this is, or should be, a component of psychological warfare operations.

Is this being addressed anywhere within our special operations commands? Seems like this is a missing piece of the picture in our efforts to combat terrorizm.

Yes, it is being addressed.
I think we have a ways to go on effectiveness, but some of that is due to restrictions on messaging for political reasons. Inform and Influence operations are often a very sensitive subject diplomatically.
If it were my call to make, I would concentrate efforts to trace and target posters and respondents, set up entrapment situations where a meeting is set up and a law enforcement sting operation ensues (a la "to catch a predator"), and spoof operations to divert funds from jihadist activities.
A robust deception plan would likely be ineffective, but a more subtle one that throws off timing or subverts their propaganda I feel would be highly effective, especially on the recruiting side of the house.

This was a good read. While I want to combat terrorism as well, I'm torn between what some would call censoring the web to eradicate stuff like this and pedophiles, vs free speech. How would this be administered? Who would make the determination that it's terrorism? What could it expand to? I do think we need to combat terrorism on as many fronts as possible, but I think this is a cavernous area to dive into from a legal, moral, and ethical standpoint.
