This article is meant to serve as a starting point for those who have already decided that they want to join the military but want to compare what each branch has to offer, and for those still deciding whether or not the military is the right choice for them.

The services have very different personalities and also some unique career fields. Take the ASVAB, see what you qualify for and where that matches your interests. Then ask yourself, how do I feel about being in the field, or on a ship? Sometimes process of elimination is helpful.

I believe it all depends on the individual, and what they want to do, whether A D, reserves, or Guard. Depends on their circumstances.

Tried for a Navy ROTC Scholarship, didn't make it. Marines offered Platoon Leaders Class, 1st Quarter grades set me back a year. Signed Advanced ROTC contract, no more Marine. Applied for Air Academy junior year and found out had to start as freshman. Stayed with Army. Probably best decision; my year group did not fair well in Vietnam.

I loved my 31 years in the National Guard and Army Reserve, by the end of it I had the equivalent of 10 years active duty. I hope and pray for others to follow in my footsteps, we need citizen soldiers in all services and branches, people who want to serve when the need is the most critical. This is what motivated me to stay in as long as I did.

Yes, the process of elimination really narrows the, I wish I would have stayed in l long enough to retire, life had different plans for me. Great experience all around!

Think it really depends on what an individuals goals in the military are. Obviously if you want to be in the infantry you're probably not going to look at the Air Force or Navy and conversly if you want to fly jets you're not going to look at the Army. I was on track to be a Naval aviator while in college but requirements that would have taken away my summer employment which provided a significant chunk of money towards my expenses steered me to the Air Force. If you are looking at a specialty that is in all services you need to look at the type of enviroment each service provides and go with what suits you the best. Finally there is what I'd call the pride factor. Certain branches provide that to individuals for any number of reasons so you should select the one that instills the most pride for you.

The Army has lots of rotatory and fixed wing aircraft, but not the fast movers.
I have a huge amount of respect for how the AirForce focuses on the technical aspects of most positions. This is something that lends to highly professional service members who know their job. Always best when we are a combined team and I have had the good fortune of seeing that in all three of my overseas deployments.

Ya, chose words carefully because if goal is to just fly all services are available. By nature guess most AF positions are highly technical, but that is rapidly changing. I agree, my best times were when working with combined services. It takes a village!
