There's been talk of modernizing the nukes with a price tag approaching $1 trillion. Add that to a trillion for infrastructure and things start getting tough on the Hill. Like they say in DC, a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon you start to get into some real money. With sequester and the tea party anything that adds to the debt is almost DOA from the start. Too bad they didn't have that approach when we first saw deficits because it was manageable then. It's just a dream now because $20 trillion vs current GDP of $18.03 trillion places the issue in the unicorns and tooth fairy category. There's just not enough fat to cut to get it done within a timeframe that fits politically. The reality is it will never get done without increasing taxes on very wealthy and since they control the lawmakers they will not allow it to happen. They've already optimized output remarkably; to a point that output is up 80 plus % while 1 of every 3 job has been eliminated forever. The middle class have little more to give so we can easily see the problem. If we look at the estimated 54 billion added to budget for defense vs. the drastic cuts to other areas and compare 54 billion to the massive debt that may make things more clear about "robbing from Peter to pay Paul".
