Polar Star and Polar Sea, Commissioned in 1976 and 1977, were in service when I was, & I've been retired 24 YEARS. Polar Sea has been out of service since 2010 due to failure of five of her six Alco main diesel engines. the only other USCG Icebreaker the USCGC Healy was commissioned in 1999. These ships need to be refreshed!!

The scope of the review seems appropriate, particularity with ensuring the breaker can support drones. Ensuring the design can accommodate advances in technology that have emerged since the original capabilities document was approved seems smart as it will be harder to change once the vessel is constructed.
