And this was yet another major misstep by this administration. Even the Pentagon is worried about this one.
A former Soviet military translator, Bout supplied arms for deadly conflicts around the world by using his air cargo companies to smuggle weapons from Eastern Europe to Africa and the Middle East in the 1990s and early 2000s. Bout allegedly delivered surface-to-air missiles to Kenya for an attack on an Israeli airliner in 2002. And four years later, Bout reportedly met with Islamic terrorist organization Hezbollah prior to the Lebanon war. The "Merchant of Death" also had a "considerable commercial presence in Libya" during former leader Muammar Qaddafi's reign, according to intelligence records found in the country in 2011.

Don't know what's the uproar about. It must have been the best deal possible because the administration has world-class negotiators.
It's not like we would do a bad trade like four terrorists for a deserter .... oh, wait.
Glad she's home. While she was 'guilty', it was like being sent to prison for nine years for going 5mph over the speed limit on the highway. Regardless of her anti-national anthem sentiment, she doesn't deserve this - nobody does.
But I can easily be of two minds - I'm glad she's home and I think the deal sucks.
I think it's the height of stupidity when someone believes a politician saying, "I know I'm in charge, and it might suck now, but it would suck soooo much worse the the other guy gets into office!" so I'm going to forgo the 'future vision' of "well, he's just going to cause more people to lose their lives now that he's freed". Yeah, he's a bad actor, but he's also a roach - it's not like another didn't pop up as soon as he was thrown in jail.
Regardless - Russia has been trying to get him back for years and this trade is on par with appeasing terrorists. Using 'carrots' and not 'sticks' just leads to bad actors demanding more carrots because all they really understand is the stick.
