When in peace, prepare for war. We have potential conflicts in the South China Sea and by Taiwan. We also have lots of tension in Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania protecting our Northwest flank of NATO because Russia wants to steal back the three countries that they agreed to split with Adolf Hitler in late August, 1939. Russia may want to steal Poland back as well and they've already stolen half the Crimea with their little green men. Some of those little green men were Wasted by our forces while attacking our base in Syria.

This is a very dangerous time. We have had a defense treaty with Taiwan since the 1950s.

SSG Samuel Kermon Research some of the articles from the 1950s and 60s on Quemoy and Matsu. We were a lot closer to war then than today.

Due to Taiwans poximity to mainland China I don't see them having a chance. It will be a matter of time before China overwhelms them. The US will have to fight its way to the hornets nest. We will also need logistics bases and protect them. Much will depend on the next few years due to knew technology and weapons systems that will most likely be Revolutions In Military Affairs like hypersonic missiles and laser weapons. I really don't know what the ranges of those missiles will be, but I can say if a missile goes Mach 5, there will be a two minute window for it to travel 120 miles. 10 miles out and the window shrinks to 10 seconds. They might change Navy doctrine if the ranges are quite far. We better find some countermeasures for that kind of velocity. The next few years might be an explosion of new, radical, and much more lethal capabilities.
