As soon as the author of this article compared "The Four" (the four objects of his derision) to the "Robber Barons" he lost my sympathy. The so-called robber barons used their individual rights and liberties to build vast enterprises that served America well while government licensed or operated businesses eroded our economy. Yes, government must provide oversight and maintain a level playing field for all. However, political entrepreneurs who game the system for advantage over competitors ultimately use that advantage to the disadvantage of Americans. Please don't make me reiterate the countless examples that prove this case. Go read a book (The Myth of the Robber Barons by Folsom and Robinson is a good starting place). Study the history of George Washington's fur trading posts and Lincoln's Transcontinental Railroad. The author cites the size and economic clout of The Four as though size and economic clout were bad things. Next he enumerates how we poor suckers are led by the nose to do their bidding. Why do so many have so little respect for us? Maybe the minions of the Left are easily led, that's their problem, but not the vast heartland of America that the Left deplores.
Once upon a time the railroads ruled America. Not anymore. Like all organisms, corporations are born, some rise, all wither and die. Once upon a time the annual income of General Motors alone exceeded the combined GNP of every nation of the world except for the top eight. Where is GM now?
And if The Four exert undue influence on our government, whose fault is that?
