As a middle school teacher, I agree with this post. 100%. Kids live in a "virtual" world instead of reality. They don't know how to operate basic functions of computers (programming, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and the majority don't know how to critically think and analyze information. In the last 5 years, its gotten significantly worse, especially in areas of work ethic and maturity.
I notice outside of my class that toddlers who misbehave most often have parents who are on their phones for a large amount of time. Correlation between those two things.
While I can't speak for my school or for all teachers in all places, in my location based on my experience, this is true.

My wife is a middle teacher too and sees this daily. We decided early on that sending our daughter to day care and letting her figure out how to entertain and think for herself are critically important.
