Huh. I think mentorship of leaders to subordinates regardless of gender is not only a good thing but a requirement of good leaders. How else do you grow future good leaders aside from leading by example?
After reading the article however, I feel as though I'm stuck in a vicious circle of the good old boy's network or something.
To write a book about mentoring female soldiers and having to demonstrate in a book why they deserve as much consideration as a male soldier for their contributions just seems counterintuitive to me. I get the intent, and perhaps the reason for it. However, that we need to convince people that women can and should have a part to play in the overall scheme of things and should be developed to do so, is well disheartening. And maybe I'm just a little put off by the metaphor of "Athenas" because it once again characterizes women in a stereotypical class vs. just a member of the team who is as deserving as her male counterpart.

I can definitely understand your frustration with the fact that that this comversation has to exist. But I think it's pretty cool that these guys are willing to take an active role in bridging the gap.

One part I found particularly interesting as well as a bit relatable was the part discussing the fact that many male leaders are willing to mentor female subordinates but just don't know how to go about it. This a sentiment I've heard within my unit. This is also on top of problem that CW2 Sweesy pointed out, which is that there is a perceived risk in mentoring females and so then many guys just tend to avoid mentoring females altogether.
