I was determined to volunteer as soon as I graduated from law school. It just seemed like what I ought to do. Surprisingly, I found myself at Infantry School surrounded by other college graduates. Sure, there were plenty of younger kids, some high school grads and some just shy of graduation. We were assigned to training squads alphabetically and it was the luck of the draw that my whole AIT squad had degrees. So, I wasn't alone...

Thanks for sharing SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I was too young to volunteer for Vietnam but enlisted anyway as soon as I could - delayed entry in October 1974 and enlisted for active duty as a 12B combat engineer on November 11, 1974.

Well if you want to get technical about it I didn't really Volunteer to fight in Vietnam,and then that pesky Oath came up,you know the one we all take on entering the Service.
