Some of the original owners have probably passed on, were killed in the concentration camps or think the art may have been destroyed, or their surviving children don't really care.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth I am sure you are right except the don't care. These are highly valuable art pieces. Even if the individual doesn't care about the art, in this day and age, I cannot imagine them not caring about the value at auction. The bigger problem is documentation. It isn't like records were kept digitally in multiple locations. Talking about paper records that were most likely destroyed either intentionally, or just because it was a war.
