In the simplest terms, I think that the money spent, upwards of $2.7 Trillion, is the single largest expenditure the USG has ever made and in normal times would encompass nearly 2/3 of total federal spending. I think considering how much money that really is, taking stock or measures of performance (as we call it in non-lethal effects-land) is not just the right course, it is the responsible one.
I would also point out that that bill was drafted and passed by the GOP Senate while the House was on recess and farting off.
I get it, the House Dems have the sads that all of the goodies that they wanted did not make it into that gigantic bill and they want another one to rectify that. But don't give me any BS about how the Senate is not acting.
And that USPS bit was straight bullshit as well. The USPS is required by the Constitution, but leaving that aside, the reason the Postal Service has financial issues right now is precisely the same reason some of those blue states that want a handout do. Their Pension obligations are outweighing contributions. Sorry, but I don't consider that a national emergency.
