Our laws are really screwed up, but they're the only ones we have, right now. This article is someone's pipe dream, but it was interesting.
WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans have insisted that no matter who President Barack Obama nominates for the Supreme Court, there will be no hearings, no votes, no nothing. But there may be one potential candidate that Republicans would have a hard time blocking: Obama could appoint constitutional law professor Barack Obama.

Sure. Somebody who lights up the White House in rainbow colors should go in as Chief Justice who can separate personal opinion versus the Constitution. Very bad idea.

SPC Andrew Griffin - I am sure someone better versed can answer the question. He was the Chief Justice of the court. He sort of started the whole legal precedence for segregation in schools with Lum v. Rice and police being able to search based on probable cause. Also, he was part of the Insular Cases which resulted in U.S. citizens, who are inhabitants of U.S. territories (like Puerto Rico), not being able to enjoy their full Constitutional rights.

If he's not in office then yes, he could be nominated. Taft was appointed to the Supreme Court following his Presidency. That said, he'd never be approved.
