The media is being used as a weapon! It scares me to no end and these people can destroy someone's life in a matter of seconds. They can cause the stock market to tumble hundreds of points just by running a negative story about a particular product. They have way too much power and nothing in the way of checks and balances.

There is a very powerful "check and balance" on the media. It's called common sense. Unfortunately, it is a very uncommon commodity

It is a state in real disarray. I have been there many dozens of times on business (and was stationed there in the early 1980's, a different time for sure.
When you talk about human waste and drug needles on the streets you have already lost control. San Francisco, in addition to poop and needles is unaffordable for most to live in or near, the taxes are out of control and crime is way up. Car break ins are like sport there now. No one is even pursued any more, park at your own risk.
LA can be horrific in some areas. I was down in the flower district a number of months back and the number of people living on the street was unreal. I was waiting and stopped to eat breakfast and it did not feel safe. There was a drugged out guy in the middle of the street screaming obscenities at cars and people. A cop just stood by watching, I guess to make sure he didn't get hurt or hurt someone. Screaming obscenities in the middle of the street is no long a reason to get arrested apparently.
