SSG Carlos Madden Someone has to be in charge! Truman stepped to the front of the formation and did take charge!!

As much as we military professionals may disagree with the political professionals, the military is an extension of the government and our actions are under the control of the civilian leadership of that government.
I'm from the camp that believes MacArthur was a great military leader with a shrewd strategic mind. However, that doesn't mean he was ultimately in charge, no matter how much the situations of the time thrust him into that role.
When it came to taking the step back when he should have, he didn't and the results were predictable.

As a Wisconsin resident, I have visited the American Legion Post of which he was a member (it no longer exists). I agree with you. I have no problem with Truman's asserting his authority over MacArthur or any other General
