Can’t get the full story... but if it’s about dropping the 4 man fireteam... yeah, that’s fucking stupid.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! It's like messing with the Army infantry squad. Two five man fire teams and a squad leader - 11 men. There is a reason football has eleven players working together. Sgt Wayne Wood

I am struggling a bit with 3 man fire teams. But then again, I went through the age where we went from 3 4-man fire teams per squad to 2 5-man fire teams, then eventually back to 3 4-man fire teams.
In effect there are still 3 4-man fire teams *but* in team one, the 4th man is the squad leader, team 2 it is the asst squad leader and team 3 it is the new tech guy/gal. You have to be aware that you are effectively 3, 3-man teams with extra coordination within the squad.
To me, it makes more sense to add a 4th squad to each platoon. Leave the 1st 3 platoons alone and use the 4th (much smaller) platoon to run your tech out and around your platoon. Coordinate through your squad leaders (and have your fire-team leaders "listening in" as well). When you need to send a squad on patrol, attach a couple tech guys and maybe an asst squad leader for that mission.
The problem is not with our troops. The problem is the integration of real time data in the midst of combat and how to effectively filter/handle it at the squad and fire team levels.

Yeah... your 4-man breakdown is closer to what i saw in real life.
Senior-most Fireteam leader is also SquadLeader and so on down with additional human baggage distributed as required.
