This debate isn't new. It's been going on since the days when I served (and that was a very long time ago). Atomic mines, neutron bombs, and so many more variants have been developed. Special purpose nuclear weapons with relatively low yield, the likes of which we might actually employ. The big ones, the strategic nukes are simply too awesome to consider employing. Once of my favorite quotes came from the renowned science-fiction writer, Ray Bradbury, who said "We should worship at the altar of the atomic bomb" because it made war unthinkable. Well, as it turns out, it is all too thinkable as proven by repeated conflicts that have embroiled the world despite the presence of nuclear weapons. Now we arrive at an age when rogue nations such as North Korea and Iran possess nukes and their leaders, death cultists, seem to have little restraint in their potential use. Thus, I am inclined to fall on the side of low-yield nukes. Sad, but necessary...
