It turns out that US Special Forces have been in the country since at least 2013. Their main charge is training Nigerian soldiers, but they’re also on the ground, stationed at the country’s borders and fighting groups like Boko Haram and al-Qaeda.

We have been in Niger for a long time. There are a lot of bad people over there, and as ISI is defeated in Iraq/Syria, they are moving to northern Africa.
