I would like the Today show and TV psychologists to stay the hell away from my kids and grandkids.

Sgt Jay Are - Yes, the cash is an external reward, but 5hatcis where you start, and gradually they will internalize the goal of wanting to succeed. In real life, many of us seek employment that pays well. The paycheck is external reward, but in order to keep it, we must develop a work ethic, which is an example of internalization. All those TV psychologists are in it for the big bucks. I doubt they would agree to forgo their "external reward," ie big paycheck. Corporate CEO's receive external rewards every year in the form of obscene bonuses. I don't see them giving up their bonuses so they can "internalize." It is so easy to sit there on a TV set and tell other people what to do...to practice what you preach, not so much.

Thumbs-up for the article. It's great to nurture it and healthier for a person in the long run, but most people don't go to work for "intellectual curiosity"...they're their for the "payout." I suppose it depends on the student.
