This was a very thoughtful way to look at the subject. I can honestly say that I am one that naturally leans toward the soldier mentality who strives to be more of a scout.

I lived in a concrete pipe for sixteen months. The Nam Myoho Renge Kyo was in my homeless storage and wouldn't tell me where his meeting was. The Hare Krishna was in my homeless shower and wouldn't tell me where his meeting was. Being a scout takes a lot of patience.
