I am the child of parents who were the first generation of their families born in America. My father's parents never spoke English, but he did. He also "Americanized" his name. My mother's parents spoke English, but that was easy. Her mother immigrated from England. Millions like them came here to be Americans. Whether they learned the language or not, they had no illusions about the places and cultures they had left. America was the dream. Being American was the dream and I'm living it. Sure, every one of them altered what it meant to be American in subtle ways, but living a life of liberty, individual responsibility, was what made being an American unique. Diversity kills that dream. It kills that life. Screw diversity. I celebrate our differences, but in this, I agree with Dr. Sowell.
