Nature abhors a vacuum. China was afforded a policy of benign neglect by Obama, Clinton and that mental giant Kerry. China saw that American influence was reduced under Obama - who was not willing to confront any foreign power that challenged American interests. Now China has, in effect, a chain of man built islands, that will serve as permanent air craft carriers in the South China Sea. They have effectively projected their Naval and Air Power to interdict sea lanes without any opposition from the United States. Another foreign policy success by Obama.

With Duarte in the Philippines, the situation seems more dire. Those shipping lanes are vital to the stability of the region. It would be horrible if China controlled all the trade routes between the democratic countries in the area.
