Women in the Army

Women have fought hand in hand with men in every major battle since the American Revolution. Women's roles have evolved to allow the incorporation of women in expanding military career fields. From the beginning in 1948 when women were officially integrated in to the military there as been a theory that women will weaken America’s military effectiveness. Each time women have been allowed into a new field this theory has come back to the forefront. Each time it is proven to not be the case as those women who desired to be in the specified field rose to meet the challenge. There are more than 200,000 women on active-duty including 69 Generals and Admirals. this is about 14.5% of all military. Women already comprise 2.7% of the military's front line units. Despite the official ban of women in combat roles, omen on the modern battlefield have often been engaged in firefights in Iraq and Afghanistan. Given the scope of current operations it is unlikely this will change. It is important to recognize this.
