If you want the three or four largest populated states to decide your next President, good idea. If you want representation from each state and be fair, keep it as it is.

Agreed - the electoral college has a place within our election system. That being said - I do think it needs to be updated, in regards to how many votes each state gets...as population has grown and decreased in certain states over the years.

Telling a "small state" to help avoid the Electoral College is like teaching a boxer to lean into a left hook. Citizens of small states will be marginalized if the Electoral College is ever eliminated. True, they may think it a good thing when candidates totally ignore them during Presidential elections.

Sadly, the people who advocate or argue for the elimination of the Electoral College are merely demonstrating their ignorance of it. If you think that Presidents should be elected by a simple majority of all citizens of the United States, get yourself a map and an almanac, then write the total population of each state in its space. Now, play a game. Which states do you need to win the election? You will quickly learn that candidates need only win a very few of the most populous states to win the election. The vast majority of the states (and their citizens) may be ignored. Once in office, imagine then just how concerned the President will be with the needs and wishes of those states not needed to win the election. Right? Right...

Bad idea. The Electoral College process was designed and implemented as another brick in the foundation of The Republic.

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the population can take away the rights of the other 49%." - Thomas Jefferson.
