I have visited the capital many times but always prior to the WW2 monument being around. I have always loved the Iwo Jima memorial and not mainly as a Marine but as an American who loves his country. I do hope I can see it with my wife in the future.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 29, 2004 the National World War II Memorial opened in Washington, D.C., to thousands of visitors, providing overdue recognition for the 16 million U.S. men and women who served in the war.
To be honest, those who served and fought in WWII have been honored while they served and since. It is the Korean war veterans and even more importantly the Vietnam War veterans who were shortchanged by most of the nation when they returned.
