LTC Stephen C. - Awesome. Beautiful bird. The wingspan is simply amazing on full grow eagles. Raptors are a favorite. Love the rehab centers for birds. Was watching a PBS program yesterday about the only bird rehab place they they have in Wyoming. Most are Golden Eagles. Apparently, WY is home to a large and endangered population of them. I get a few hawks in the yard throughout the year. One will wait up in the big tree for the small birds to go to the feeder. But the small birds know enough to stay away when a hawk is around!

Spirit takes her final flight; named Honorary War Eagle

You'll love this, SGT Mary G.! Auburn University is my alma mater and the home of the AU Raptor Center (and a very good vet school). Auburn has one of the most unique pregame traditions in country. Personally, I think it's unrivaled! Here you go!

Thank you LTC Stephen C.! Amazing. And they all love her - a real highlight of every game, and unrivaled. Imagine training your AU Honorary War Eagle! And the next one too. Their weight alone would be daunting. I guess Spirit could not be rehabed enough to be safe in the wild. Wondering what is going to happen to her after she retires from 19 years of service.

SGT Mary G., the raptor center at Auburn and those elsewhere, I'm sure are amazing facilities. Virtually all raptor species are provided for there, and all are reintroduced into the wild if at all possible. The only eagles used for the pregame activity are either those born in captivity or those that cannot be reintroduced into the wild.
When the eagle is retired, they return to the raptor center to live out their lives in comfort and with the care only found at one of the top veterinary schools in the nation.
