All very good advice and yet advice never seems enough. Like all crafts, writing, effective writing, takes talent, patience, and self-critique, an ability to look objectively. No, you'll never be satisfied. I never was. People had to drag the copy from my hands and use it over my objections. It's good enough they told me, but it never was. Yes, it was good enough to persuade people. To sell products and services. To win praise. Still, I was never satisfied. The truth is that once you are satisfied, you stop trying. When you stop trying, you stop improving, and that's the truth.

Nearly all those whom I went to school with would never believe I could write anything of any redeeming value. That is because I was never anything but a C student at best, and had very few thoughts or ideas that I could call my own. Being shy I did a lot of listening and and kept pretty much to myself. Back then I would have been considered NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer, and definitely nowhere near the head of my class. In reality I was a slow learner and a late bloomer. I hated anything that would have been considered literature, English/grammar, or creative writing. All that changed at age 45 when I was told by my employer that I needed to attend a class in technical writing as a requirement for a promotion to Project Specialist/Project Engineer. I quickly found that writing was my way of expressing myself in a way that was difficult to do verbally. I was also told I needed to attend classes to learn facilitating skills...a class that I was not looking forward too attending. These are two classes that benifited me greatly in my career through retirement. Over the years I written numerous articles about things I've learned, interesting things about history, and my family background. I was grateful to learn I was a capable learner and might be one of the sharper knives in the drawer. It's never too late to improve your skills and learn something new. You can do it.
